Introduction

Starting April 1st, all newly created customer businesses will be using the CLU language model by default. This decision was made after careful consideration of the many benefits that the CLU model offers in comparison to other language models available on the market. This blog post will discuss the advantages of CLU and how it can migrate your business to leverage the new language model.

Advantages of CLU

Conversational language understanding (CLU) enables users to build custom natural language understanding models to predict the overall intention of an incoming utterance and extract important information from it. For further details please visit What is conversational language understanding?

How to Migrate Your Business from LUIS to CLU

For businesses created before April 1st, you will still be using the LUIS language model by default. To migrate your business to use CLU going forward, there are a few steps that you need to follow so that you can resave and publish your existing business using the new CLU language model support.

Note:

  1. You may notice slight changes in the confidence scores returned for a given user utterance between the different models.

  2. While LUIS-specific features have been best mapped to new CLU features by default, entity definition and logic is not necessarily a 1:1 between LUIS and CLU. For more information please visit the Comparison between LUIS and CLU
